Doctor McCoy was a valued member of Kirk's Enterprise crew. Though he was a talented surgeon and physician, Kirk relied as much on McCoy's emotional counsel as a counterpoint to Spock's cold logic as he did his medical skills. Despite his expertise in space medicine and alien physiology, McCoy was often ill at ease in space and deeply suspicious of advanced technologies, such as the transporter.
Character was played by DeForest Kelley in the TV series Star Trek.
